iCan Updates

Berry Middle School: 

The Berry Middle School iCan Team has corresponded with their parents through a parent letter and included additional information about the iCan program.  Berry will have their first hands on activity in October.

Erwin Middle School: 

The Erwin Middle School iCan Team will have their joint parent kick off and first activity on September 28^th.  This will be a light bulb project that incorporates Electrical Engineering with a Math focus.  Please contact Chan Newsome for details if you would like to help with this event. 

  

Simmons Middle School:

The Simmons Middle School iCan Team held their parent kick off on September 11^th, which included the lip gloss activity.  Simmons will have their first hands on activity in October.  

Phillips Academy:

Subject:  Activity - Straw Tower, Civil Engineering Activity 

When: Tuesday, September 18 7:45-10:00 AM

Where: Phillips Academy (check in at main office)

Phillips Academy iCan Team held their parent kick off on September 10^th.  Their next event will be a hands on activity on September 18^th.  This will be a straw tower activity that incorporates Civil Engineering. Please come out and support our new school!  Approximately 10 additional volunteers are needed for Phillips Academy first hands on activity.  If you can participate, please contact Mingyawna Satterwhite at 205-257-3284.

 

Trussville Middle School: 

The Trussville Middle School iCan Team held their parent kick off on September 11^th.  Their next event will be a hands on activity on September 18^th.  This will be a light bulb/Infrared activity that incorporates Energy Efficiency.  Please contact Meredith Morgan for details if you would like to help with this event. 

•          September 11^th at 6:00 pm – Parent meeting in HTMS Library 
•          September 18^th 11:00 to 1:00 – Energy Efficiency Activity
•          October 23rd   All Day - APC Field Trip
•          November 15^th 11:00 to 1:00 – Lip Gloss Activity
•          January 22^nd 11:00 to 1:00 – K’nex/Lego Car Activity

 

Do you want to get more involved with iCan? 

If you are either new to iCan or have been involved in the past and would like to be more involved this year we would love your help!  If you are not currently assigned to one of our 5 schools, please send an email to Melissa Watts at MLWATTS@southernco.com expressing your interest.  We would love to increase our volunteer base and we have a few teams that need additional volunteers for their school!
